This project was made as an assignment for the EPDA Awards 2021 (European Packaging Design Association). “Create a new and innovative sustainable packaging design”. As a team, we came up with a few ideas for sustainable packaging. But we eventually found that sustainability does not have to be only in the product or packaging. So we decided that we would look into the struggling life of the solitary bees.
This project won #1st place in the EPDA junior awards.
75% of the pollination of our food crops is dependent on the work of these Bees. 15% of wild plants would not exist without their pollination. Bees provide us 1/3 of every bite we eat. In short, saving the Bees is very important. Leaving nutritious plants or even planting them is a good start. We could also provide more shelter so that bees can nest and hibernate.
It would be great if people would place a bee hotel in every garden, but putting together a bee hotel takes a lot of time and energy. Also, not everyone wants to spend a lot of money doing this.
Our product makes it possible to place a bee hotel in every garden. We don't throw away packaging, but we give it a second life. Our honey packaging serves as a bee hotel. The hexagon-shaped lid serves as a shelter for the bee. We remove the work by pre-drilling holes. They are stackable, so you can expand your bee hotel. This is how we help our little friends together.
The project was made in collaboration with other students: Luka Geurts and Ilse Beeren. I was responsible for the 3D modelling, the general branding and the design and production.
